Reflecting on an inspiring Bio Innovations Europe 2026

Looking back on two excellent days at Bio Innovations Europe, filled with engaging discussions, new connections, and valuable progress with partners. It was a pleasure to reconnect with familiar faces while also building new relationships across the industry. A big thank you to the Bio Innovations Europe team for once again organizing this impactful and enjoyable gathering of the bio-based sector in Europe—now for the fifth edition.

During the event, DAB.bio's CEO Eric van der Meer shared our perspective on the current state of industrial biotechnology:

  • Established fossil-based value chains are increasingly being disrupted—and even weaponized—within today’s geopolitical landscape.
  • Industrial biotechnology has a critical role to play in decentralizing and securing energy and material supply chains across Europe.
  • For the sector to fully realize its potential in building a strong and independent Europe, several key developments are required:
    • Strengthening market pull: The European Union must ensure sufficient demand for biobased products, providing producers with the confidence to invest at scale.
    • Accelerating adoption: Industry players need to embrace novel technologies developed in recent years to reduce production costs and enable competitive manufacturing.
  • By addressing these priorities, industrial biotechnology can attract the necessary capital, accelerate investment in Europe, and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable economy.

One of the key takeaways from Bio Innovations Europe is that collaboration across the industry—while still limited—is essential. Building viable ecosystems for emerging biobased products requires stronger partnerships. As a provider of cutting-edge technology, DAB.bio actively fosters collaboration by offering partners state-of-the-art support, flexibility, and independence.
